I don’t read print, but I was stuck at CVS to fill some scripts and I got a chance to read this month’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . They compare the M2, M235i, 228i, E30 M3 and the 1-series M coupe. The conclusion might surprise you
Jack Baruth wrote the article and our man Travis was one of the drivers. Definitely check it out.

It was a very good article. Any reason you don't read print? I find I can't focus when reading magazines on my phone...

Jack gets a bit verbose at times, but he’s a good read.

I don’t get a lot of time for reading, just a few mins here and there between breaks at work or when I’m out and about. So digital is just much easier that way.

I had a 135is and now have an E92 335i xDrive.
I totally agree about the steering in the M235i, there’s just no feel.
The 135is had great feel and a reasonably quick ratio. My 335xi also has good feel and a somewhat lazy ratio, perhaps similar to what they’re talking about with the 228i.
I’m putting a bunch of new suspension bits on later this week which should help the overall handling a whole lot.

I thought Jack’s opinion on the 4 cylinder turbo, when run next to the sixes was interesting. I’ve heard that opinion before, but not from a journalist.

That 1M needs an alignment, I'm calling it. Short wheelbase, big torque, and big tire and it's super susceptible to a toe out issue in the rear or camber off front or rear (though my guess is toe). That is nothing like my personal experience with the 1M and all their complaints came back to what sounded like a misalignment.

I have the same exact opinion. I love the 228i!

Read the article, truly a great piece. Jack Baruth is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers for R&T, wish Chris Harris wrote more.
Glad the outcome specified that a car is often more than the sum of its part, especially when they are working together and not against one another. My fiancee is sure enjoying her 228i MSport MT, perhaps I need more canyon seat time in it!
